Welcome to an extraordinary journey through time! Killarney Mountain Lodge is excited to invite you to participate in the creation of our very own Killarney Time Capsule.  The capsule will be sealed inside the Big Dipper and opened in the year 2222. This is your chance to leave a lasting legacy that will be rediscovered 200 years from now!

What Are We Doing? 

We’re curating a collection of items that represent life in Killarney for its first 200 years of existence. These items will be stored in a time capsule inside the Big Dipper which will be sealed with instructions to open in 2222. The project will culminate in a special event, Big Dipper Day, where the capsule will be officially sealed in a ceremony with our community. 

Why Are We Doing This?

This time capsule project celebrates the rich history and vibrant community of Killarney Mountain Lodge and its surroundings. It’s an opportunity to capture the essence of this period in time including our stories, our memories, our treasures and pass those forward to future generations.

Top 25 Submissions: Each selected participant will receive a miniature paddle hand crafted by Mike Ranta along with a summary or description of the event.

Big Dipper Day: October 14, 2025  

Mark your calendars for Big Dipper Day—a grand celebration where we’ll seal the time capsule in a special ceremony. Join us as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. Holden & Carey Rhodes, our lodge’s visionary leaders, will unveil the plaque that marks this momentous occasion, and Mike Ranta will seal the capsule with care and precision. 

How to Participate

We’re calling on the public, our guests, staff, local community, and fans from around the world to contribute items for the time capsule.

Submit Ideas Online

Share your idea or item online through our dedicated submission form below. We’re looking for items that are non-perishable, non-flammable, and no larger than 7 inches in diameter to fit inside the sealed capsule.

On-Site Collection

If you’re visiting us in person, bring your item to the Killarney Mountain Lodge and hand it over at our collection point.

Submission Guidelines

  • Size: Items must have a diameter of 7 inches or less. 
  • Type: Non-perishable and non-flammable items only. 
  • Theme:  Items should reflect life in Killarney and at Killarney Mountain Lodge from the last 200 years.
